Shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 29, DC Fire and EMS personnel were called to a reported outside gas leak in the area of 19th and Vernon Street NW after a construction worker accidentally hit an outside line.

The incident led to the evacuation of threatened buildings as a precaution, and windy conditions led to the odor of gas throughout the area, officials said.

Washington Gas crews were called to the scene and were still working to clamp the leak as of 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning. According to the agency, there is no indication of any gas presence in any adjacent buildings.
